Although the pizza at Zachary's may look like Chicago-style — thick crust, lots of toppings, gooey cheese —there’s a big difference between Zachary’s Chicago Pizza and the typical deep dish. Zachary’s pizzas are stuffed, with an additional layer of crust on top, which keeps toppings from drying out and allows the pizza to hold more cheese.
These award-winning pies are clearly East Bay’s most beloved, as there’s a line out the door nearly every night. Fortunately, they have it all timed perfectly. Patrons order their pizzas before being seated, so the pie comes out piping hot without a wait at the table.
The house favorite is spinach and mushroom. Other specialty pizzas include chorizo with green chilies and jack cheese, and the Good Health Pizza with baked chicken, half-skim mozzarella and spinach on a whole-wheat crust.
Zachary’s also serves fresh salads, thin-crust pizzas and create-your-own pies, with daily specials on certain pizzas. Zachary’s also offers half-baked pizzas for carry-out. No delivery. Beer and wine available. Serving lunch and dinner daily. Voted Best Pizza and Favorite Restaurant in the 2009 Oakland magazine readers' poll and Best Pizza in the 2009 East Bay Express readers' poll.
