And we’re celebrating it by highlighting three employee-owners who celebrated major milestones in September! 

October is Employee Ownership Month, and around here, that means a little extra celebrating! 😉

Zachary’s employee-ownership journey began in 2003, when founders Zach and Barbara decided to sell the company to the people who already knew it, loved it and helped make it what it was: their employees. By 2010, Zachary’s had become 100% employee-owned, and our employees remain our only investors today. Employee ownership isn’t just part of our business structure- it’s a big part of the Zachary’s story. And few things bring that story to life better than the people who have chosen to build their careers here.

Which brings us to three pretty amazing milestones from September. Sergio, Higinio, and Antonio celebrated a combined 80 YEARS at Zachary’s! 🤯

Sergio Celebrates 35 Years 🎉

Sergio celebrated an incredible 35 years with Zachary’s on September 3! He joined our Oakland & Berkeley kitchen team when he was just 17 years old. More than three decades later, he’s still a rock in our kitchens and has expanded his Zachary’s résumé to include helping with maintenance work, too. How many pizzas has Sergio made in 35 years? We have absolutely no idea. How many teammates has he helped train? Also no idea. But we’re pretty sure both numbers are very large. Sergio has quite literally grown up alongside Zachary’s, and we’re incredibly grateful for everything he’s contributed along the way. Happy 35th, Sergio!

Higinio Celebrates 25 Years 🍕

On September 23, Higinio officially joined the quarter-century club, celebrating 25 years with Zachary’s! Higinio joined our Oakland & Berkeley restaurants in 2001 and has been a steady presence in our kitchens ever since. His signature quiet, calm demeanor is particularly appreciated when a busy night kicks into high gear and the kitchen gets a little…let’s call it lively 😅 Pair that calm presence with an incredible work ethic, and you have the kind of teammate you’re very lucky to work alongside. Congratulations on 25 years, Higinio, and thanks for keeping calm and pizza-ing on!

Antonio Celebrates 20 Years 🙌

Antonio celebrated 20 years with Zachary’s on September 27! His story with us began in 2006 when he joined the team at our then-brand-new San Ramon restaurant. When we relocated that restaurant to Downtown Pleasanton in 2021, Antonio made the move with us. Over two decades, he’s become a stalwart of our kitchen, helping train teammates, sharing his experience and making sure the pizza going out of our kitchen lives up to the standards our customers expect. Twenty years, two cities and a whole lot of pizza later, Antonio is still helping us do things the Zachary’s way. Happy anniversary, Antonio!

Here’s to Our Employee-Owners ❤️ Thirty-five years. Twenty-five years. Twenty years. Eighty years combined. During Employee Ownership Month, milestones like these are a pretty wonderful reminder that Zachary’s is ultimately about its people. We’re proud to be 100% employee-owned and even prouder of the employee-owners who have spent years, and in these cases, decades, helping shape who we are.

Pizza Mind Trivia Is Now a Monthly Event in Livermore!

Great news, trivia fans: Pizza Mind Trivia is officially becoming a monthly event at Zachary’s Livermore! Join usevery second Tuesday of the month for an evening of clever questions, friendly competition, delicious pizza, and plenty of laughs.

Our next trivia night is Tuesday, October 13, from 6:30-8 PM. Host Robert will put your team’s knowledge to the test with questions covering a fun mix of topics. Whether you’re a trivia regular, a fountain of random facts, or simply excellent at guessing, you’re invited to play!

There are plenty of prizes up for grabs:

• First place: $50 Zachary’s Gift Certificate
• Second place: $30 Zachary’s Gift Certificate
• Round prizes featuring T-shirts, appetizers, and more

Players can also enjoy $11 cocktails and $7 draft beers during the event.

Round up your trivia crew, grab a table, and join the fun on October 13. Then come back every second Tuesday for another helping of Pizza Mind Trivia!

Calling all artists, doodlers, pizza lovers, and creative minds- this is your final week to enter the Zachary’s Art Contest!

The deadline is this Sunday, August 30, which means there are only a few days left to turn that Zachary’s inspiration into a masterpiece for our walls.

Our Art Contest is open to all ages, and artwork can be as creative, colorful, quirky, or pizza-obsessed as you’d like. The only requirement is that your piece includes Zachary’s name and/or logo. Art must be one of the following four sizes: 36″ x 48″, 32″ x 32″, 26″ x 26″, 24″ x 36.” Digital art must also be scaled to these sizes. Art can be submitted to any Zachary’s restaurant. Digital artwork can be emailed to artcontest@zacharys.com. Please keep in mind that original artwork is preferred to AI generated art.

Artwork submissions must also include a completed Art Contest Rules & Entry form. Forms are available at all locations, or you can download one HERE. Hard-drawn artwork must be on paper heavy enough for matting, but please do not mat artwork yourself. Zachary’s will mount and frame all winning entries.

Winners will receive a $200 Zachary’s Gift Certificate + Zachary’s T-shirt, and their winning artwork will be displayed on the walls of Zachary’s for our communities to enjoy.

Big news, trivia lovers: one of our most popular community events is making its way to Livermore.

Pizza Mind Trivia has been a long-standing favorite at Zachary’s Grand Lake, bringing together neighbors, families, coworkers, and friendly rivals for nights filled with laughs, pizza, and the occasional “I can’t believe I knew that!” moment. Now we’re thrilled to bring that same experience to our Livermore community.

Join us for our launch night on Thursday, July 16 at 6:30pm with our host Robert (of course!) leading the fun. Expect creative questions, plenty of laughs, and just enough competition to keep things interesting.

Whether you’re assembling your dream trivia team or flying solo, everyone is welcome. Groups are limited to 6 and a food or beverage purchase is required to play.
