CONTRA COSTA AND SOLANO COUNTY FOOD BANK

On Friday, June 9th, a group of Zachary’s employee owners volunteered at the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano in Concord.

The Food Bank serves over 190,000 people each month. Last year, the food bank delivered over 20 million pounds of food to people in need in Contra Costa and Solano counties. One in eight Contra Costa residents turns to the Food Bank for help. The food bank has about 70 full time staff members working hard to organize and coordinate a huge quantity of perishable and non-perishable items.

Our energetic group of volunteers was excited to lend a hand (or many hands) for the morning. Zachary’s Community Outreach Coordinator, Robin Smith, organized the event. Smith said, “I was really impressed with how much bigger the organization is and how many families they are able to service in a month. And I can’t wait to go back and help more!”

ZACHARY’S WINS BEST PIZZA FROM OAKLAND MAGAZINE

We are super excited to announce that Zachary’s won Best Pizza from Oakland Magazine! Check out their full list of winners here.

We are very proud of our Oakland roots. We are a part of a community with A LOT of food options and A LOT of pizza options. We are truly grateful that our customers show us so much love. We are humbled to be a part of such a fabulous list of awesome Oakland spots!

SPRUCING UP SOLANO AVENUE

Check out this article in Berkeleyside about the new parklet on Solano Avenue! We are so excited!

Why a Parklet?

  1. There is very little public space on Solano Avenue. The parklet will have seating for about 25 people.
  2. The parklet will help reduce some of the traffic safety concerns on Solano Ave.
  3. The parklet beautifies the street!

What about Parking?

Two parking spaces are being added across the street from the theater building. There is NO NET LOSS of PARKING on Solano Avenue.

Other Information About the Parklet

  • It’s a public space!
  • It is Berkeley’s fourth parklet and is a part of the city’s pilot parklet program.
  • Zachary’s will not serve food on the parklet because it is a public space. Customers are more than welcome to order food to go and eat it on the parklet (when construction is complete!).

ZACHARY’S ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: MADISON ZUNIGA

ph-zacharys-is-purrrrfect-madison-zuniga-2015 The walls of our restaurants are filled with one-of-a-kind Zachary’s Pizza Art. We held our first art contest in the late 1980′s and the tradition has continued every couple of years to this day. We love our art and the artists. Ladies and Gentlemen, meet Madison Zuniga!
“Madison is an 11 year old born with a creative passion. She has always enjoyed all types of art! She is constantly working on new ideas.
Two additional favorites (ideas) are cats and Zachary’s pizza. Her art piece is an original idea, inspired by both.
Her family is also very important to her and she wants to thank them for all the art supplies and Zachary’s pizza.” – Submitted by Madison’s Mom, Elizabeth Zuniga

Thank YOU, Madison for your cat-tastically amazing Zachary’s art!

EAST BAY SPCA: GROWL, MEOW AND WINE

Every year, the East Bay SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) hosts a major fundraising event, “Growl, Meow & Wine”. This year, Zachary’s sponsored at the “Cat’s Meow” level and we got to send seven very lucky employee owners (and one even luckier Zachary’s spouse!) to the event. From the EBSPCA website, “The East Bay SPCA is committed to the welfare of cats and dogs in the communities we serve. We strive to eliminate animal cruelty, neglect and overpopulation by providing programs and education that support people and companion animals.”  Check out their site!

The event started with a silent auction and was soon followed by an energetic and exciting live auction. Our employee owners rocked the silent auction walking away with a huge gift basket of doggie treats and toys, a visit to a Healdsburg winery and some Giants tickets! Zachary’s VP, Leandra Schuler, was particularly fortunate; she walked away with two Southwest airline tickets in a nail-biting raffle!

Despite all of the fun and success that the humans enjoyed, the big winners of the day were the animals who benefit from all of the amazing services the EBSPCA offers. We were very proud to be a part of a such a fantastic event!
