EAST BAY SPCA: GROWL, MEOW AND WINE
Every year, the East Bay SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) hosts a major fundraising event, “Growl, Meow & Wine”. This year, Zachary’s sponsored at the “Cat’s Meow” level and we got to send seven very lucky employee owners (and one even luckier Zachary’s spouse!) to the event. From the EBSPCA website, “The East Bay SPCA is committed to the welfare of cats and dogs in the communities we serve. We strive to eliminate animal cruelty, neglect and overpopulation by providing programs and education that support people and companion animals.” Check out their site!
The event started with a silent auction and was soon followed by an energetic and exciting live auction. Our employee owners rocked the silent auction walking away with a huge gift basket of doggie treats and toys, a visit to a Healdsburg winery and some Giants tickets! Zachary’s VP, Leandra Schuler, was particularly fortunate; she walked away with two Southwest airline tickets in a nail-biting raffle!
Despite all of the fun and success that the humans enjoyed, the big winners of the day were the animals who benefit from all of the amazing services the EBSPCA offers. We were very proud to be a part of a such a fantastic event!
ZACHARY’S ART CONTEST: BRING THAT IMAGINATION!
The Bi-Annual Zachary’s Art Contest is in full swing! Throughout the years, we have received hundreds of fantastic pieces by some incredibly talented teen and kid artists! These artists are inspired by a wide variety of things and we LOVE seeing where their imaginations fly!
Entries can be submitted by individuals, siblings, groups of friends or classmates.
More information on the art contest can be found here.
LIMITED TIME: ARIA’S ENCHI-HOLLA AND ROASTED PEPPER SPECIAL
Two of our favorite pizza specials are available for a limited time!
At our OAKLAND and BERKELEY locations, Aria’s crowd-pleasing ENCHI-HOLLA Enchilada pizza is back! Aria won an employee pizza contest a couple of years ago in both “Most Creative” and “Best Pizza” categories. Her tasty creation has our free range chicken breast marinated in a green enchilada sauce, corn, cilantro, black olives, a cool swirl of sour cream, Monterey Jack and cheddar cheese. It’s available stuffed (comes with corn tortillas under the sauce) or thin crust (comes with tortilla chips).
At our SAN RAMON and PLEASANT HILL locations, our super popular and super delicious ROASTED PEPPER pizza is back. It’s made with red, green and yellow bell peppers, Anaheim chiles, Pasilla peppers, onions, yellow cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese and available stuffed or thin.
ZACHARY’S ART CONTEST: INSPIRED BY THE BAY
The Zachary’s Pizza Art Contest is ON!
Submissions are due May 31, 2017. For details, click here.
What inspires you? Nature? Love? Food? Pizza? Hint, there is a right answer to that question. 😉
For many past winners of the Zachary’s Art Contest, the San Francisco Bay Area serves as the most perfect source of inspiration! We’ve seen lots of entries that applaud our world-famous bridges, sights in the Bay Area, and Northern California icons. Are you feeling inspired?!
KALE SALAD IS BACK!
Our popular Kale salad is returning to the menu for a limited time only! The idea for this salad comes from Regional Manager Naji Duran-Janini. Naji said, “This is the salad I make at home all the time. The salad was really a collaborative effort with Saeki (fellow Regional Manager). He really wanted to do something with kale. We had a lot of fun creating it together.” The Kale Salad comes with kale (really??!!), feta, matchstick carrots, green apples, cucumbers, roasted pumpkin seeds and a house-made Tahini dressing. It’s yummy, refreshing and nutrient-packed – a triple win!
EAST BAY EXPRESS’ GUIDE TO COLLEGE AVE!
The East Bay Express just published a super fun Guide to College Avenue! It’s chock-full of info on food, coffee, adult beverages, shopping, art and community spaces. It’s nearly Spring (!!!) and nothing beats strolling down College Avenue, supporting local shops and business and being a part of our community.
Check out the Food and Drink page for a glimpse of yours truly 🙂
NEW SPECIALS: KALE SALAD AND BUFFALO CHICKEN PIZZA
It’s an exciting week in Oakland and Berkeley! Our popular Kale salad is returning to the menu!
In the world of pizza, the Buffalo Chicken special is back! This spicy special is made with our free-range chicken breast flavored with a cayenne pepper “wing sauce”, pepperoni, mozzarella cheese and topped with our house-made blue cheese dressing. This pizza is available stuffed and thin crust for a limited time!
Our CEO (Kevin) grew up in Buffalo, NY and drew inspiration for this pizza from the sauce of his homeland. Kevin writes, “Growing up in Buffalo, pizza night always meant pepperoni pizza and a bucket of chicken wings with blue cheese dressing. The flavor of Buffalo wings and pepperoni pizza work really well together, so I figured why not try combining those flavors on our pizza?”
We think you will enjoy this combination just as much as Kevin did as a kid in Buffalo.
