SPRUCING UP SOLANO AVENUE

Street view with a pizza restaurant labeled Zacharys and a bookstore named Pegasus Fine Books. A fenced outdoor seating area with tables and people is visible in front, and a cyclist passes by on the right.Check out this article in Berkeleyside about the new parklet on Solano Avenue! We are so excited! Why a Parklet?
  1. There is very little public space on Solano Avenue. The parklet will have seating for about 25 people.
  2. The parklet will help reduce some of the traffic safety concerns on Solano Ave.
  3. The parklet beautifies the street!
What about Parking? Two parking spaces are being added across the street from the theater building. There is NO NET LOSS of PARKING on Solano Avenue. Other Information About the Parklet
  • It’s a public space!
  • It is Berkeley’s fourth parklet and is a part of the city’s pilot parklet program.
  • Zachary’s will not serve food on the parklet because it is a public space. Customers are more than welcome to order food to go and eat it on the parklet (when construction is complete!).

Two additional favorites (ideas) are cats and Zachary’s pizza. Her art piece is an original idea, inspired by both.
Her family is also very important to her and she wants to thank them for all the art supplies and Zachary’s pizza.” – Submitted by Madison’s Mom, Elizabeth Zuniga

It promotes Paws for Pizza with Zacharys Chicago Pizza and East Bay SPCA logos, with a bold red heart and website at the bottom. Every year, the East Bay SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) hosts a major fundraising event, “Growl, Meow & Wine”. This year, Zachary’s sponsored at the “Cat’s Meow” level and we got to send seven very lucky employee owners (and one even luckier Zachary’s spouse!) to the event. From the EBSPCA website, “The East Bay SPCA is committed to the welfare of cats and dogs in the communities we serve. We strive to eliminate animal cruelty, neglect and overpopulation by providing programs and education that support people and companion animals.”  Check out their site!

The event started with a silent auction and was soon followed by an energetic and exciting live auction. Our employee owners rocked the silent auction walking A group of seven people at an indoor social event, standing and smiling for a photo. The venue is decorated with colorful paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling. Tables around them are set for dining with glasses and plates.away with a huge gift basket of doggie treats and toys, a visit to a Healdsburg winery and some Giants tickets! Zachary’s VP, Leandra Schuler, was particularly fortunate; she walked away with two Southwest airline tickets in a nail-biting raffle!

Despite all of the fun and success that the humans enjoyed, the big winners of the day were the animals who benefit from all of the amazing services the EBSPCA offers. We were very proud to be a part of a such a fantastic event! An open program on a table with a mug and water bottle. The left page lists event schedules, featuring a kitten photo. The right page thanks sponsors, with logos for Fresh Step and others. A black mug has an East Bay SPCA logo.
